Independent alternative sourcing

star building systems alternatives for factory quote comparison

CoreSpan Sourcing is an independent sourcing service, it is not star building systems, is not affiliated with that brand, and is not a manufacturer or authorized dealer. Buyers who arrive from that brand search can still write a neutral brief for a pre-engineered steel building and ask factories for quotations on the same specification.

A useful brief names the building use, footprint, eave height, bay spacing, clear span, code jurisdiction, wind speed, ground snow load, and seismic design category before anyone talks about price. Shell, delivered, installed, and turnkey remain four different scopes.

Rigid-frame steel workshop under erection with purlins and girts exposed

Send these six items with the brief

  1. Use and occupancy
  2. Footprint, eave height, and layout
  3. Design loads and exposure
  4. Code jurisdiction
  5. Quantity
  6. Destination and scope boundary

What the desk checks before a factory is asked

Engineer marking bay spacing on a steel building plan

Primary frame and secondary framing stay on the same sheet

A rigid frame quotation that omits purlin and girt spacing cannot be set beside a package that includes the secondary framing, flange bracing, and the insulated metal panel. The desk asks each supplier to identify whether primary members are built-up or hot-rolled steel, which secondary members are cold-formed steel, and the proposed grade and coating.

Design live load and design dead load are copied from the buyer brief, not invented by the desk. If the buyer has not received those values from the project engineer, the line stays open.

Truck trailer illustrating a transport envelope beside a module mockup

Transport envelope and foundation interface are separate lines

Volumetric modular construction can move finished rooms, but the transport envelope and the crane lift plan decide whether the route and the pad can accept the module. Panelized construction packs flatter and leaves more assembly on site. Neither method is selected here. The brief records module dimensions, site access, and who designs the foundation interface.

Thermal transmittance and fire-resistance rating are requested as supplier statements for the quoted wall and roof, with the test standard named. A brochure value is not treated as the project value.

Side-by-side quote sheets with scope rows highlighted

Scope labels stop mixed prices from looking equal

A shell package, a delivered module, an installed frame, and a turnkey building do not share a price basis. The desk keeps freight, tax, foundation, utilities, and erection as their own rows. A sample brief, not a completed project, might describe an 80 ft by 120 ft workshop, 20 ft eave height, wind exposure category C, 115 mph wind speed, and 25 psf ground snow load, with the slab excluded. The result of that sample is a matrix of included and excluded rows, not a recorded savings figure.

Inquiry options in the two families on this desk

These cards open the existing inquiry form. They are not inventory, not a compatibility claim, and not supply of the searched brand.

Clear-span rigid frame interior with no interior columns

Pre-Engineered Steel Buildings

Clear-Span Steel Building

Ask for the clear span, eave height, bay spacing, and the design loads the frame was sized against. Collateral load, collateral hanging, and crane beams stay blank until the buyer writes them.

Multi-Bay Steel Building

Interior columns change the usable aisle plan. Record bay count before comparing a multi-bay frame with a clear-span frame.

Insulated Steel Building System

Request the insulated metal panel thickness, thermal transmittance, and whether the liner is in the quoted scope.

Steel Warehouse Building

Dock doors, rack layout, and floor load belong in the warehouse brief even when the frame quote is still a shell.

Industrial Workshop Building

Note overhead crane capacity as a buyer requirement. The desk does not assign a crane rating.

Steel Aircraft Hangar

Door width, tail height, and the wind exposure category at the airfield are hangar-specific lines.

Uses that change the brief

Distribution warehouse with dock positions along one wall

Warehousing

Workshop interior with service bays under a rigid frame

Workshops

Aircraft hangar door opening on a steel frame

Hangars

Modular site offices beside a steel building pad

Site facilities

Application pages walk from the use to the purchase lines. Open the application map or compare offsite methods.

Send the building brief

Include quantity, destination, and the scope you want quoted. Optional budget can be per building or for the whole project, in USD or another currency you name. Supplier preference is a buyer choice, not a verified rating.
